Inspiron 17R windows 8 boot problem

Well, I seem to have stumbled across an answer myself. At the start I pressed the esc and the F12 button to reach bios. I changed the Boot mode setting to legacy, secure boot off. Then got the message "Operation system missing" pressed esc, Same message, again esc. Then got the option to go to windows boot manager. Then, after a somewhat oval DELL screen the windows start screen appeared. Then went to restart and found there were some updates to be installed before shutting off. At the restart, still in legacy mode, same sequence as before. Then, before the windows screen, further installation occurred. Restarted again and changed the boot mode back to normal, and it works!!

Apparently there is a hitch in the MS Office 2010 under windows 8 installation...(?)

Anyway, I can proceed. ?
