During a charity golf outing a week ago, retired Will County Judge Stephen White made the rest of his foursome wait while he was interviewed by TruTV?s ?In Session? about jury selection for the Drew Peterson murder trial, a case White handled before he retired.
?Of course I couldn?t say anything (about the delay),? said Scott Pyles, chairman of the Democratic Party, who was golfing with White. ?Because he was still carrying us.?
White confirmed the report about his new demanding media career ? and Pyles? poor golfing. The group used only one of Pyles? scores for all 18 holes. How many of White?s were used?
?A lot more than that,? White said.
Going for the win
Pyles may struggle at golf. But he feels pretty confident he will win an appeal of a recent Will County Electoral Board ruling that knocked eight Democrats off the Will County Board ballot in November.
Pyles tells the story of another case he handled for Rich Girot, who was kicked off the ballot for mayor in Braidwood in 2003.
Pyles lost that case at the electoral board, the circuit court and the appellate court levels. But he won at the supreme court by a vote of 6-1.
The final win didn?t come until more than a year after the Braidwood election, however. Pyles is hoping for a more timely decision in the Will County case.

On the plus side
Joliet got through the first half of its fiscal year with an operational surplus of $401, according to Councilman Michael Turk, finance committee chairman.
Anything in the black is positive, said Turk. But the drop in casino tax revenues has hurt the city?s cash flow, he said. The city also incurred a big, one-time payout in the transfer of Splash Station Waterpark debt to the Joliet Park District.
A midyear budget update is being planned for the council?s Aug. 6-7 meetings.
On the road
After the Aug. 6-7 meetings, the Joliet City Council takes its regular meetings on the road for three months while the council chambers are remodeled.
The pre-council workshop meetings will stay at City Hall in a conference room. Regular meetings will go to Plainfield South High School, Joliet Central High School, Joliet Junior College, the Joliet Historical Museum, and Joliet Township High School?s administrative building.
Assistant City Manager Ben Benson said the remodeling project is expected to start Aug. 9.
