As humans we like to win. In every facet of our lives there are winners and there are losers, it has always been this way. Some are humble victors, who gain little joy from beating their opponents, but for others winning is everything. This can clearly be seen with the rapid rise and implementation of large-scale multiplayer game modes across the video game industry and the more competitive realm of online casinos. A realm reserved for those who prefer a higher stake, that of real money.
Playing to win and playing for fun
Online casinos and ?Play to win? Internet sites have become a huge business over the past couple of years. When you first sign up are given a specified amount of money completely free to use on the site, sounds great right? Hell, even better than that you don?t even have to get all dressed up to play, Just turn on your computer in your pyjamas and click play. This is one reason for the popularity of online competitive games; you can?t actually see anyone else. So the apt play to win player?s saying that ?If you can?t spot the weakest player it?s you?, doesn?t apply.
The shark and the fish
The rise of online play to win gaming has been accelerated by the creation of two types of players, the ?Fish?, and the ?Shark?. Games such as poker and other card games, possibly even blackjack, consist of skill. For a good poker player there is mathematics involved. A person who wants to win money online has a tight grasp on the probabilities of the game, they understand the importance of these probabilities and how much they could possibly win against how much they could lose, basically they can read the game. These people are known to the online world as ?Sharks?.
It is one thing to play just in order to win; it is something else to play to win because you were better than the other player, and not because you got lucky or where in a better situation. You could say that winning by any means is simply just playing the game, and you would be right in saying that, certain people just like to win, even if all they win is intangible rewards or the threat of physical retribution. But for others, it?s all about the thrill of the possibility of winning big. These players are called ?fish?.

Good ?Play to win? players demand an advantage. What separates the fish from the sharks is that fish do not expect to win; sharks on the other hand play only to win. A fish will happily play online bingo, poker or slots just hoping to just get lucky. But good players do not rely on luck to win, they understand the rewards and the risks they face offline. They are aware at all times how much money they need in order to play, and how much money they need for other expenses in life.
Sometimes the fish will beat the shark, whether by chance or sheer blind luck, this will only wet the fish?s appetite for that next big win. But in the end the Shark will always come out on top. This leads us to a counter-point in this article, people also love chance. They love the roles that both luck and chance play in the game. It is something they can?t control or predict, and it is one of the most important factors of why they play. In some ways, luck and chance shape our day to day lives; and online play to win gaming is just as affected by the fluctuations of either.
