Until the second half of last week?s double-overtime victory vs. the Denver Broncos, Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs hadn't been a factor for quite some time.
Suggs, who missed the first six games because of an Achilles tear and then tearing his right biceps in Week 13, got two sacks of Peyton Manning in the second half. Broncos left tackle Ryan Clady had no answer for him and needed chip blocks to help contain Suggs.
Suggs has refused to speak to media for several weeks, except for a comment he made to explain his sub-par performances.
He said after the playoffs started two weeks ago that his Achilles was sore and causing him problems. Suggs got his first sack in his first game back at the Houston Texans in Week 7, but his impact had been marginal at best since then. He is delaying surgery on his arm until the season ends.?
"He?s playing through something that most guys wouldn't play through. And, yes, he is getting better,? coach John Harbaugh said. ?He is improving every single week. We hope that continues.?
Suggs sat out a 31-28 overtime loss to the Washington Redskins in Week 15 after tearing his biceps in the previous game.
Suggs never had more than 4 tackles in a game during the regular season. But he had 10 in the playoff win at Denver. Ray Lewis, who is playing with a brace on his right arm after surgery to repair his torn triceps, had 17 tackles.
While Suggs isn't near last year?s form when he was named the NFL?s top defensive player, the Ravens need that version of him to show up in Foxborough to get past the New England Patriots in Sunday's AFC title game.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady isn't nearly as good when he's forced to move off of his spot to make throws. The same went for Manning, who was forced into 3 turnovers.
