Conference play is finally here for college basketball teams around the nation and March Madness will be here before we know it. With Selection Sunday about two months away, there will be more and more bracket projections in the coming weeks. Joe Lunardi of ESPN recently released his latest field of 64 65 68. For fans in the Bay Area, they will likely be happy with the bracket.
The Stanford Cardinal are projected for a seven seed in the Midwest Region and would hypothetically Wichita State in the opening round. The Cardinal are one of two teams from the Pac-12 to go dancing in Lunardi's latest projections and earned the highest seeding.
The California Golden Bears may not have any big wins to hang their hats on, but they are projected for the No. 10 seed in the West Region as of January 4. The Bears would face St. Louis in the opening round.
The St. Mary's Gaels have been quite the story this season and are currently slotted for a No. 7 seed in the Southern Region. Fans will remember the run the program made just a few seasons ago and they would face Pittsburgh in the opening round.
It seems a little silly to be projecting the bracket more than two months before Selection Sunday, but, hey, it's always fun to see where your favorite team stacks up. Entering conference play, all three of the teams near the Bay Area are sitting in a nice spot.
