Can you imagine a restaurant where you can not only eat chocolate, but smell its fragrant aromas, experience the different textures, feel its silky softness, taste exotic and surprising chocolate flavors and be surrounded by flowing liquid chocolate! Sounds like a chocolate paradise, and Maya Chocolaterie could be called just that.

Maya on Tahlia Street and now also at a new location on Orouba is a haven for chocolate lovers. This restaurant offers an extensive menu of pure chocolate indulgence. ?Starting from their specialty hot chocolates and signature fondues, to the delicacies from the decadence boutique or the home made pastries; Maya chocolaterie will surely get you on a sugar and endorphin high!

The Tahlia street branch is very popular on weekends and due to its small size sometimes they have over an hour?s waiting list to get seated.? Once you enter the restaurant you?re met with warm chocolaty colors and aromas. The first thing you see are two large churns of chocolate and pipes running along the ceiling containing liquid chocolate! There is a small chocolate boutique by the entrance as well

The seating is unfortunately very boxed up and the place may seem a little crammed. Most customers opt to have the screens around the tables and the entire restaurant is a family section. Once you get seated in your own little box and see the menu, this will seem like just a small inconvenience though. The secluded feeling of the place would make the Chocolaterie a perfect choice for a romantic night out.

The Maya menu is impressive. It?s hard to choose from the list because everything sounds divine. Thank goodness they also have sugar free options available.? There?s even a kids menu with chocolate pizza on it!

A visit to a chocolaterie would not be complete without trying out their hot chocolates and signature fondue. The only problem with the hot chocolate was choosing between the many interesting choices available. White, dark, African, rose and orange flavored all sounded tempting. We settled on Rose and Java blend.

The waiter was very friendly and swift and we quickly got to sip on our chocolate elixirs. There is truth to the saying chocolate has healing powers. The smooth rich flavor of the hot chocolate was absolute perfection. So silky and soft and somehow soothing and relaxing at the same time. One of those moments when you taste something so good you can only smile, sit back and enjoy.

Customers have a choice between milk chocolate, dark chocolate and white chocolate fondue flavors and can also choose what to dip in it. We chose the platter with mini cakes, marshmallows and strawberries. The fondue was fabulous but the mini cakes were too dry. Anything dipped into this chocolate would taste good though.

We tried also their Belgian waffle and Chocolate Crepes. The waffle too was a bit dry but the chocolate drizzled on top saved it. The crepes were much better. At this point the chocolate feast started to make us dizzy and we were forced to leave trying out the rest of heavenly desserts on the menu for another time.

It?s said chocolate brings out feelings and emotions similar to that of being in love. Visiting this chocolate ?love clinic? released so much endorphins it certainly kept the spirits high for a long time.
